Common questions
Commonly asked questions
What comes up in almost every first conversation — cost, timeline, platforms, and what it’s like to hire one experienced person instead of an agency. Answered plainly, so you don’t have to ask.
How do you approach a new project?
Every engagement opens with discovery: your goals, your audience, your competitors, and what success actually looks like in numbers. I look at what’s working in your current site and analytics before proposing anything. You get a roadmap covering strategy, design direction, and technical approach — so we’re building for your business rather than filling in a template.
How much does a website cost?
It depends on page count, how much content already exists, and what the site has to connect to. Most small-business starter sites land between $3,500 and $6,000, while small-to-medium businesses needing 25 pages or more typically run $8,000 to $15,000. Hourly work is $85 an hour. Every project is scoped before it’s quoted, so the number ties to actual hours. Branding is quoted separately.
Who is my point of contact?
Me — start to finish. There’s no account executive relaying your notes to a designer, no separate strategist billing hours to interpret your analytics, and no project manager sitting between you and the person doing the work. You talk to the person making the decisions, so nothing gets lost in translation and answers come back in one step instead of three. It also costs less: an agency has to price in the layers needed to coordinate a team, and there are no layers here.
Do you provide your own tools and software?
Yes — most of the stack comes with me. Design, prototyping, analytics, heat mapping, email platforms, AI tools, and project management are all subscriptions I already pay for, so you aren’t buying software to work with me. What stays in your name are the things your business should own outright: hosting, your domain, and platform licenses like WordPress or a page builder. I research, recommend, and set those up, then hand you the keys so nothing about your site depends on my accounts.
Are you local here in Northeast Ohio?
Yes. The studio is in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, which is also home, and I work across roughly a sixty-mile radius — Cleveland down to Canton, and east to west of Akron. Most of the work runs through the virtual studio, so distance rarely matters, but local clients can meet in person when it helps. Meetings happen virtually or in a public spot nearby, whichever suits you.
Can you provide references?
Yes. After 25+ years there are plenty of people who can speak to the work — clients, collaborators, and colleagues from both agency and in-house sides. I’m glad to connect you with references whose projects resemble yours, so you’re hearing from someone with comparable scope rather than a generic testimonial.
How often will I hear from you?
Meetings are Tuesday through Thursday, 8 AM to 4 PM. Monday and Friday are protected studio time. Email is the fastest way to reach me outside meetings, and deliverables usually go out between 4 and 5 PM. Anything genuinely urgent is read and addressed the same day regardless of the calendar.
What is your current availability and weekly capacity?
It shifts with the season. A portion of every week is already committed to repeat clients on recurring work — retainers, campaign cycles, and ongoing site updates — and that baseline is stable and planned well in advance. What’s left is what I can honestly offer a new project. Before we start, I tell you where you fall in the schedule and what your realistic kickoff and launch dates are, rather than promising a start date I’d have to break. If capacity is tight, you’ll hear that up front, and every existing commitment stays on its original timeline.
What do you need from me to start?
Your business context, a few competitor sites you respond to, any existing brand assets, and access to your current site, hosting, and analytics. During the build: copy, photography, testimonials, and prompt approvals. I can work with partial materials, but incomplete content is the single most common reason a project slips past 90 days.
How do payment and ownership work?
Half of the estimated cost up front, the balance at launch, or milestone payments on larger projects. The contract covers scope, timeline, revisions, and payment terms. You own everything — site, files, hosting, and platform accounts — either from day one or transferred to you at project close if I set anything up on your behalf. No vendor lock-in either way.
